HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, State Representative Monique D. Davis and the members of the House of Representatives of the State of Illinois are pleased to congratulate Joyce E. Bristow on the occasion of her retirement as the Area Instruction Officer for Area 16 of the Chicago Public Schools; and

WHEREAS, In her position, she provided professional development and instructional support to 32 elementary school principals, assistant principals, and leadership teams in the Morgan Park, Beverly, and Roseland communities; her specific responsibilities included assisting schools in utilizing available resources to implement effective improvement plans and working with local school councils to identify and hire the best possible principals; and

WHEREAS, Under Mrs. Bristow's leadership, numerous educational improvement initiatives were implemented in Area 16, including quarterly professional development meetings for assistant principals, leadership teams, and learning communities in every school, the creation of school probation liaisons to conduct weekly school visits and walk-throughs, and regularly scheduled high school articulation meetings with elementary school principals and teachers; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Bristow also served as Chief State Liaison Officer for the Chicago Public Schools and Officer for the Department of Academic Preparatory Centers, Middle Schools, and C.A.R.E. program; as Chief Liaison, she represented the Chief Executive Officer in direct communication with the Illinois State Board of Education, serving on State committees, task forces, councils, and other working groups; and

WHEREAS, Prior to serving as Area Instruction Officer, Mrs. Bristow was the Executive Assistant to the Chief Education Officer, and she also served as the principal of Robert A. Black Magnet School; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Bristow graduated from Harlan High School, received her undergraduate degree from Tennessee State University, and earned advanced degrees from Northwestern and Chicago State Universities; she is a member of numerous organizations, including the National Alliance of Black School Educators, the National Principals Association, the Association of Curriculum and Development, and the Chicago Principals and Administrators Association; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Mrs. Joyce E. Bristow on the occasion of her retirement; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Mrs. Bristow as an expression of our esteem.
