HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Lamont A. Thompson retired from the Chicago Police Department after 35 years on the force on February 15, 2005; a celebration will be held in his honor on March 30, 2005; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Thompson joined the Chicago Police Department in November of 1969; he worked on the Area One Task Force from 1970 to 1971 and transferred to the Fourth Police District in 1971, where he was assigned to the tactical team and worked for five years until being promoted to Field Training Officer in 1976; he provided leadership and guidance to new officers assigned to the Fourth Police District; and

WHEREAS, In April of 1981, he was promoted to Sergeant; as a Sergeant, he worked in the First Police District, where he trained for six months, then was transferred to Gang Crimes South, where he was responsible for supervising approximately eight to ten gang specialists daily; and

WHEREAS, In January of 1993, Sergeant Thompson was transferred to the Second District, where he worked in patrol for five years before being transferred to Gang Crimes Investigations in August of 1998; he stayed in this Unit for three months and was then promoted to Lieutenant in November of 1998; he was assigned to Public Housing North as the Commanding Officer, where he worked for two years; in June of 2000, he was promoted to Commander of the Fourth Police District; he worked in the Fourth District for over four years, before retiring on February 15, 2005; and

WHEREAS, During his career, Commander Thompson received 28 complimentary citations for exceptional service to the citizens of the City of Chicago, 54 Honorable Mentions for exceptional performance as a police officer, one Problem Solving Award, and one Unit Merit Performance Award; and

WHEREAS, While working full-time and raising a family, he attained his Bachelor's Degree in Pre-Law and Independent Studies; he has maintained his management and leadership skills by attending several police structured courses at Northwestern University, FBI Investigative School, Southern Police Institute, and Harvard Homicide Institute; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Thompson has been married to his wife, Evelyn for over 28 years with five children and seven grandchildren; he valiantly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy from 1964 to 1967; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Commander Lamont A. Thompson on the occasion of his retirement from the Chicago Police Department after 35 years of service, and we thank him for his devoted service to the safety and protection of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Thompson as an expression of our respect and esteem and with best wishes for a well-earned, relaxing retirement.
