SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
815 ILCS 505/2EEEE new

    Amends the Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act. Provides that it is an unlawful practice for any person who hosts an online distribution platform for third-party software programs or applications to charge a fee or commission on a purchase made by a customer through a software program or application that was distributed through that platform. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning business.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business
5Practices Act is amended by adding Section 2EEEE as follows:
 
6    (815 ILCS 505/2EEEE new)
7    Sec. 2EEEE. Fees or commissions on third-party software
8programs and applications. No person who hosts an online
9distribution platform for third-party software programs or
10applications shall charge a fee or commission on a purchase
11made by a customer through a software program or application
12that was distributed through that platform.
13    Any person who violates this Section commits an unlawful
14practice within the meaning of this Act.
 
15    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
16becoming law.
