HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Edna McFadden on the occasion of her 100th birthday on December 25, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Edna McFadden was born on December 25, 1908 in Rondo, Arkansas to the blessed union of Mary Thomas and Mose Bown; she shared a memory-filled childhood with her sibling, Jefferson; she and her family moved to Chicago when she was 13; and

WHEREAS, Living in Chicago, Edna McFadden matured into a young woman with an abundance of grace, charm, patience, and wisdom, soon capturing the heart of the man who would become her soul mate, Tommie McFadden; and

WHEREAS, Edna McFadden was employed in the laundry room at the Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center for 37 years; and

WHEREAS, Edna McFadden accepted Christ as her divine savior and became a member of the Greater Metropolitan Church, where she has been a vital and active member for many years; she attended Sunday school and weekly Bible study as well; and

WHEREAS, Edna McFadden has never missed an opportunity to vote and was overjoyed to have the chance to vote for and elect the first black President of the United States; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Edna McFadden on the occasion of her 100th birthday and wish her many more happy and healthy years to come; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Edna McFadden as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
