SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Max L. Hunt of St. Charles, who passed away on April 19, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Max L. Hunt was born on March 28, 1922 in Delaware County, Indiana; his parents were Lloyd and Irene Hunt; he married Doris Howey on June 19, 1948 in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Max L. Hunt graduated from Parker City High School in Parker City, Indiana where he lettered in basketball after graduation; he attended Ball State University, where he lettered in cross-country; in his third year of college he entered the U.S. Army during World War II; during the war, he fought in the Battle of the Bulge as an infantryman; he stayed in England after the war and continued his education at the University of Bristol for one year; upon returning from England he finished his Bachelor Degree at Ball State University in Education; and

WHEREAS, After graduation, Max L. Hunt took a job as a buyer for Marshal Field and Co.; after his marriage to Mrs. Hunt, he took a job with Hafner Fabrics of New York, where he was responsible for opening the company's Chicago branch at the Merchandise Mart; after eight years, he began work for Burlington Industries; in 1958 he joined Craftex Mills and served as regional sales manager; later he started the Max Hunt Company, which represented various textile mill industries, including Craftex; in 1982 he retired from the textile industry and began a new career in concrete manufacturing; he became owner and president of Northfield Block Company in Northfield in 1983 and served as Chairman of the Board until his death; and

WHEREAS, His many memberships and services to his community include past president of the Lincoln School PTO, the Community Unit School District 303 Board of Education for 16 years, member of St. Charles American Legion Post 342, Board of Directors of the Duncan YMCA Chicago, member and former Chairman, and Board of Trustees of Baker Memorial United Methodist Church, member of A.F.& A.M. Lodge, and the Scottish Rite and Shrine's Temple in Vermont; he was co-founder of Tri-City Family Services, Chairman of the Steering Committee for the Powder Keg Youth Center in St. Charles, Co-Chairman of the St. Charles Arts and Music Festival, and co-founder of the Literacy Volunteer of America Kane County; he was a life member of the Republican Presidential Task Force; he served on the Board of directors of the Hotel Baker Living Center, the Board of directors of the Baker Community Center, the Board of directors of the Delnor Community Hospital, as President of the Dellora A. Norris Cultural Arts Center, Advisory Board of CASA, and he was a member of the Board of Directors of Valley Community Bank; he worked as a key member in obtaining the land for the Norris Campus from the Norris Family, which includes St. Charles East High School, Dellora A. Norris Cultural Arts Center, John B. Norris Recreation Center, and the Lester J. Norris Sports Complex; and he was honored for his efforts in passing a critical referendum for Elgin Community College; and

WHEREAS, Max L. Hunt has received many distinguished honors for his service; Fox Ridge Elementary School in St. Charles was dedicated in his name; he received the Illinois Association Of School Board Award of Merit, the Illinois State Board Of Education Award for Education Excellence, the St. Charles Education Association Award for Continuous Service to Education, and the St. Charles Post 342 American Legion Award for 15 years of service to Dist. 303; he received the Charlemagne Award from the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce for outstanding service to the community, the Silver Beaver Award for distinguished service to youth - Two River Council Boy Scouts of America, the Two Rivers Boy Scout Distinguished Citizen Award in 1992, two Certificates for Merit in recognition of service to the City of St. Charles, two Pride Awards for the Fox Community Image Awards from the Chamber of Commerce, and the William D. Barth Award for Human Services and recognition for community service from Tri-City Health Partnership for the Free Medical Clinic; and

WHEREAS, Max L. Hunt was preceded in death by his daughter, Deborah J. "Debbie"; his parents, Lloyd and Irene Hunt; his infant brother, Kenneth Hunt; and his sister, Elizabeth Miller; and

WHEREAS, Max L. Hunt is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Doris; his children, Steve (Polly) Hunt, Jeff (Cheri) Hunt, Greg Hunt, David Hunt, and Jennifer (Keith) Kesner; his son-in-law, Robert Beebe; his grandchildren, Justin (Christy) Beebe, Sarah (Ben) Borgmeyer, Leslie Hunt, Lauren Hunt, Mary Hunt, Oliver Hunt, Max Ian Hunt, Gavin Hunt, and Lee Kesner; his six step-grandchildren, Sally, Carly, Liese and Nina Smith, and Cloe and Avery Smith-Westphall; and his three great-grandchildren, Cohen Beebe, Rylan Janene, and Kailee Lynn Borgmeyer; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Max L. Hunt; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Max L. Hunt as an expression of our sympathy.
