SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Charlotte Helena Goss of Chicago, who passed away on July 21, 2008; and

WHEREAS, She was born on September 13, 1943 in Brooklyn, New York; her parents were Ella Marie and James Franklin Williams, Jr.; she attended grammar and high school in Brooklyn and the College of New Rochelle in New York with a full academic scholarship; she received her Master's of Science from Johns Hopkins University and her Ph.D. from the University of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, She married William Goss on August 31, 1969 and they moved to Chicago, making their home in Hyde Park; and

WHEREAS, She taught high school science classes and childhood development courses at various colleges in the City of Chicago; she was also an instructor at the University of Chicago, Perdue University, the University of the District of Columbia, and the City Colleges of Chicago; she worked as a consultant for the City of Chicago and the head-start programs; and

WHEREAS, She founded Heritage Enterprises in 1989; Heritage Enterprises specialized in multi-media learning materials for children; she also served as a resource for the Henry Booth House; and

WHEREAS, She loved gardening, with her flowers in the front of the house and a variety of vegetables in her backyard; she loved to travel and made trips to various sites in the Carribean, Europe, and Africa; she loved music of all varieties; and she loved life and her family; and

WHEREAS, Charlotte Goss was preceded in death by her grandfather, Fitz Roy Daniel; her grandmother, Dolores Daniel; her father, James Williams, Jr.; her uncles, James Jacob, Franklin Peterson, Festus Daniel, and William Daniel; and her best friend, Maude Rawlins; and

WHEREAS, Charlotte Goss is survived by her mother, Ella Williams; her brother, George Williams; her husband, William Goss; her children, Maisha Goss-Johns (Micardo Johns), Zuri Goss, Salah Malaika Goss, and Rasanah Goss; her granddaughter, Mariah; her "sister", Erma Drumgoole; and a close circle of family and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Charlotte Helena Goss; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Charlotte Helena Goss as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
