SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Ralph F. Appel of East Moline, formerly of Milan, who passed away on December 4, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Ralph Appel was born to William and Myrtle (Williams) Appel in Stockton on December 20, 1932; he proudly served in the U.S. Army; he married Phyllis Schreck on July 5, 1953; and

WHEREAS, Ralph Appel worked in maintenance at several places before retiring from the Rock Island Arsenal; and

WHEREAS, Ralph Appel was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Milan and the Milan American Legion Post #569; and

WHEREAS, Ralph Appel was an avid gardener; and

WHEREAS, Ralph Appel was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; his sons-in-law, Wesley Matter and Steve Evans; and his siblings, Julene Knouse and William Appel Jr.; and

WHEREAS, Ralph Appel is survived by his children, Janet Matter, Patsy Holland, William "Bill" (Mary) Appel, and Roger (Wendy) Appel; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and his sister, Wilma Jean Schubert; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Ralph F. Appel and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ralph Appel as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
