HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Daisy Brooks of North Chicago, for her many achievements in the community; and

WHEREAS, Daisy M. Brooks received the 2010 Citizens Medal, the second-highest civilian honor in the country, from President Obama, on August 3, 2010; she is the founder of Daisy's Resource and Developmental Center in North Chicago, which delivers a variety of educational and social services to people who need extra help; and

WHEREAS, The White House said that Dr. Brooks received the Citizens Medal for offering guidance and support to young women across Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Brooks is a native of Natchez, Mississippi; in 1995 she received a General Contractor's License; she received an Honorary Doctorate of Literature in 1998, a Doctorate of Laws in 1995, a Doctorate of Humane Letters in 1995, a Doctorate of Education in 1994, a Master of Science in Community Service in 1986, and a Bachelor of Science in 1984; and

WHEREAS, She is a Past and Present member of the American Technology Society; a Past Matron of the Emblem Chapter 140 O.E.S.; a Past treasurer of the Golden Circle #59; a Shawall Court Daughter of Isis Court #4; and a Past President of Rotary Anns Harbor Lites Chapter of the Links Inc; and

WHEREAS, In addition, she is a Life Member of the NAACP; a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Lambda No Omega Chapter; a member of Mt. Sinai Institutional Baptist Church; a Board Member of Day Care Crisis Council State of Illinois; the Vice President of the Great Lakes Chamber of Commerce, Lake County Area; a member of the Vocational Center Advisory Committee; and a member of the International Organization of Women Executives; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Brooks has received many honors and accolades, including: the Lake County Most Influential African American award; the We Do Care Organization award; the YWCA Leadership award for Services in Business; the Lake County Urban League Black Business Person of the Year; the Illinois Girl Scout Council Women of Achievement award; the Christian Fellowship Church Humanitarian award; the Top Ladies of Distinction Humanitarian award from The Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge for Free and Accepted Masons; the State of Illinois Citizens of the Year Award; the Paul Harris Fellow Humanitarian Award sponsored by Rotary International; and the OMVI Life Model Award; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Dr. Daisy Brooks for her many achievements and wish her continued success in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Daisy Brooks as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
