SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Dr. G. Richard Locke of Decatur, who passed away on August 29, 2009; and

WHEREAS, G. Richard Locke was born on January 12, 1937 in Youngstown, Ohio; he attended DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, where he met his future wife, Judy Blang; after graduating from DePauw, the two married on August 2, 1958; he then received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio, where he was Alpha Omega Alpha; after receiving his doctorate, he trained in radiology at the University of Iowa; and

WHEREAS, After serving in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968, G. Richard Locke and his family moved to Decatur; he worked at Decatur Memorial Hospital, where he was credited for bringing modern, comprehensive cancer care to the community; he later served as the Chairman of the Department of Radiology at DMH until his retirement in 2002; and

WHEREAS, G. Richard Locke was a Fellow in the American College of Radiology and served on the Board of Trustees of DePauw University and Millikin University; and

WHEREAS, G. Richard Locke is survived by his wife, Judy; his sons, Giles Richard Locke III (Jean), Jonathan Locke (Kathy), Mark Locke (Sarah), and J. Michael Locke (Heather); his grandchildren, Katherine and Giles Richard Locke IV (Chip); Madeline, Emily, Anna, and Jack; Ellie, Charles, Henry, and William; and J. Michael (Skip), Catherine, Caroline, and Graham; and his sisters, Jane Thompson (Jim) and Helen Layden (Jim); therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Dr. G. Richard Locke; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of G. Richard Locke as an expression of our sympathy.
