SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

Amends the Counties Code. Provides that on and after the effective date of the amendatory Act and until November 30, 2011, the county board of Rock Island may reduce the salaries or return to a per diem method of compensation for all county board members and the Chairman of the board. Effective immediately.

AN ACT concerning local government.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Counties Code is amended by changing Section 4-10001 as follows:

(55 ILCS 5/4-10001) (from Ch. 34, par. 4-10001)

Sec. 4-10001. County board members. County board members elected pursuant to Division 2-3 shall receive such compensation as is fixed by the county board in accordance with the method of compensation selected by the county board. Except as provided in Section 4-10002, Such compensation shall be set before the general election at which county board members are elected. The chairman of the county board shall receive such additional compensation as determined by the county board in reapportioning the county.

County board members and the chairman of the county board are also entitled to travel and expense allowances as determined by the county board.

Section 10. The Counties Code is amended by adding Section 4-10002 as follows:

Sec. 4-10002. County Board members; change compensation. Notwithstanding any provision of this Act to the contrary, on and after the effective date of this amendatory Act of the 97th General Assembly and until November 30, 2011, the county board of Rock Island County may select to change the manner of compensation of all county board members and the Chairman of the board for the purpose of reducing compensation or returning to a per diem method of compensation.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon becoming law.
