HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Roger Bergia, Peoria Heights Public School District #325 Superintendent, on his retirement; and

WHEREAS, He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Eureka College, where he played football and participated in track; he received his Master of Arts degree from Bradley University; he took postgraduate classes at Bradley University, Western Illinois University, and the University of Illinois; while in college, he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and Phi Delta Kappa fraternity; and

WHEREAS, He has served 52 years in the Village of Peoria Heights; he attended school in Peoria Heights, and after college, returned to teach and coach for 5 years, and became a school principal in 1965; and

WHEREAS, He was later promoted to Assistant Superintendent; in 1974, he was promoted to District Superintendent and has served in that capacity for 38 years; and

WHEREAS, In 1981, he was named the School Administrator of the Year by the Illinois State Board of Education; in 1992, he received the Exemplary Practices Award in Early Childhood Education from the Illinois State Board of Education; in 1993, he received the Business-Education Partnership Award from the Illinois State Board of Education; in 1996, he received the Exemplary Partnership Award in Construction Industry Prep Work-Based Learning from the Illinois State Board of Education; and, in 1981, he received the Outstanding Citizenship Award from the Peoria Heights Chamber of Commerce; and

WHEREAS, He was named to Who's Who in American Education in 1992; Who's Who in the Midwest in 1984; Who's Who in America in 1999; and Who's Who in the World in 1997; and

WHEREAS, His hard work and dedication to his career have made him respected in Peoria Heights and the surrounding area; and

WHEREAS, Superintendent Bergia will retire at the end of the 2012 school year, leaving behind a legacy of wisdom and patience remembered fondly by his many students; he will enjoy his retirement along with his wife, Val; his daughters, Lori, Amy, and Beth; and his grandchildren, Chelsea, Collin, Hanna, and Jake; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Roger Bergia on his retirement and wish him the best in his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Roger Bergia as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
