HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Judy Socha for receiving the 2012 Most Dedicated Blood Drive Coordinator of the Year Award from the Illinois Coalition of Community Blood Centers; and

WHEREAS, In 1971, inspired by her son's illness, Judy hosted her first blood drive and collected her first 100 units of blood; and

WHEREAS, In 1976, Judy worked with the Village of Addison to establish the Addison Blood Commission; and

WHEREAS, As the director of the Addison Blood Commission, Judy has worked to involve the whole community in her efforts by establishing ongoing blood drives throughout the village at local churches, organizations, high schools, and businesses; and

WHEREAS, Judy has raised awareness of the importance of volunteer blood donation through countless speaking engagements, TV and radio appearances, and tabling at community events; and

WHEREAS, Over the past 4 decades Judy has conducted over 225 blood drives; and

WHEREAS, One pint of blood saves 1 to 3 lives and Judy has been responsible for the collection of over 28,000 pints of blood; and

WHEREAS, Judy was recognized at a national level for her extraordinary efforts by winning the Americas Blood Centers' esteemed Larry Frederick Award; and

WHEREAS, In 2012, LifeSource, Chicagoland's Blood Center, nominated Judy Socha as the Most Dedicated Blood Drive Coordinator in a State-wide competition hosted by the Illinois Coalition of Community Blood Centers; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we commend Judy Socha for her selfless service to her community for the past 40 years and for all the lives which have been saved because of her efforts; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Judy Socha as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
