SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of John L. Manthey of Joliet, who passed away on January 15, 2011; and

WHEREAS, He was born in Joliet on November 8, 1925; he was a graduate of Joliet Township High School Class of 1943, Joliet Junior College, and Drake University; he was a veteran of World War II, serving as a Yeoman in the United States Navy; and

WHEREAS, He was a member and quartermaster of VFW Cantigny Post #367 and a member of the American Legion Post #1080; he was also a member of the Joliet Breakfast Lion's Club and four time Lion of the Year, a past president of St. Joe's Baseball League, a member of the Old Timers Baseball Association and the Moran Athletic Club; and he was a lifetime member of St. Peter Lutheran Church; and

WHEREAS, He was retired from the E.J.& E. Railroad after 30 plus years of service; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ida Manthey; and

WHEREAS, John Manthey is survived by his wife, Marion B. Manthey (nee, Barber); his son, Jack (Sandra) Manthey; his daughter, Sharon (Dave) Bojak; his grandchildren, John Reid Manthey, Maggie Manthey, Stephanie Manthey, and Megan Bojak; his brother, Lawrence (the late Lois) Manthey; and his special niece, Marilyn (Gus) Swineheart; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of John Manthey; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John Manthey as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
