SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Doris A. Shallenberger of Pekin, who passed away on May 12, 2012; and

WHEREAS, She was born July 29, 1932, in East St. Louis to Edward A. and Letha Evelyn (Kelley) Akridge; she married Vernie Ray Shallenberger on June 30, 1951, in Corinth, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, She worked as a Certified Nurse's Aide for 30 years for Pekin Hospital, Methodist Medical Center in Peoria, and for OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, retiring July 4, 1988; she previously worked for Boss Glove Factory and for the Alton Glass Factory; she also raised 5 kids and worked at home as a housemother; and

WHEREAS, She was a member of the Pekin YWCA, where she enjoyed swimming; she also was a member of the Carrie M. Club at the Pekin Union Mission Society and an associate member of the UAW 974 Retirees Club; she went to Bunko Club for many years and loved being a winter Texan for 23 years; and

WHEREAS, Her hobbies and interests included cooking, camping, and shopping; she also liked playing bingo, billiards, and clogging; she enjoyed family time; she was a member of the Community Fellowship General Baptist Church in South Pekin; and

WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Gary Lee Shallenberger; and her granddaughter, Rhonda Rodgers; and

WHEREAS, Doris Shallenberger is survived by her husband, Vernie Ray; her son, Johnny R. (Debbie) Shallenberger; her daughters, Regina A. (Johnny) Martin, Ramona E. (William) Howard, Frankie J. (Robert) Freeman, and Melody E. (Don) Tackett; her 15 grandchildren; her 37 great-grandchildren; and her half sister, Caroline; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Doris Shallenberger; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Doris Shallenberger as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
