SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Ted C. Peterson of O'Fallon, who passed away on September 15, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Ted Peterson was born on December 11, 1946, in Inglewood, California, to Thyrill Austin and Ruth Frances Peterson; he was married to Sue Ann Peterson (Smith) for 45 years; and

WHEREAS, Ted Peterson was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force Special Forces; his distinguished military service included being an expert marksman on the AF Command Rifle Team and leading numerous covert operations in Libya and Vietnam; and

WHEREAS, Ted Peterson had a long and respected 33-year career as division sales manager with RJ Reynolds; he mentored many young colleagues and was able to bring out the best in his employees; he retired in 2002; and

WHEREAS, Ted Peterson traveled extensively during his retirement with his wife; he was a gifted woodworker; he had a love and appreciation for history and geography, and most enjoyed the high deserts of the western United States; and

WHEREAS, Ted Peterson was preceded in death by his parents, Thyrill Austin and Ruth Frances (Richards) Peterson and his brothers, Gary and Bruce Peterson; and

WHEREAS, Ted Peterson is survived by his wife, Sue Ann; his sons, Ted (Anne) Peterson Jr. and Dennis Peterson; his brother, Don (Kathy) Peterson; his sister, Kathy Gatrel; his grandchildren, Julius, Quinn, Regan, Marin, and Hayden; his brother-in-law, Retired USN Capt. John C. (Carol) Smith; his sister-in-law, Mary Jo (Dr. Philip) Kahlert; and his nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Ted Peterson, and we extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ted Peterson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
