SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Roberta J. "Bert" Griffin of Bloomington, who passed away on July 19, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Roberta Griffin was born on April 13, 1928, in Bloomington; she was the daughter of William Herman and Lula Mae Miller Knecht; she married Charles J. Griffin on June 26, 1949, in Peoria; and

WHEREAS, Roberta Griffin was employed as a real estate broker; after receiving her real estate license in 1960 and her broker's license in 1961; she became the owner and operator of Cardinal Real Estate in Normal, where she worked from 1961 to 1978; she subsequently relocated to Weaver and Associates Realtors for 17 years and later Brady & Associates, Brady Real Estate, where she worked until her retirement in 2009; she was also part owner of Variety Liquors and Cave Lounge from 1977 to 1983; and

WHEREAS, Roberta Griffin served as president of Bloomington-Normal Association of Realtors in 1970, 1980, and 1991; she was designated as Realtor of the Year in 1986 and the State of Illinois' Associate of the Year in 1986; she also served as treasurer and vice president of the Real Estate Political Action Committee, among many other boards and committees; and

WHEREAS, Roberta Griffin was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Bloomington; she enjoyed playing cards, including bridge, euchre, and gin; and

WHEREAS, Roberta Griffin was preceded in death by her parents; her 3 brothers; her sister; and her guardian, Alma Langhoff; and

WHEREAS, Roberta Griffin is survived by her daughters, Judith K. (William) Henderson, Nancy J. Griffin, and Connie S. (Mark McIntosh); her grandchildren, Melanie (Shannon) Seelig, Wil (Gary Lee Miller) Henderson, John (Emily) Henderson, Lindsay Henderson, Lane Lampert, Lauren Lampert, and Lyssa Lampert; and her great-grandchildren, Payton Jane "P.J." Fuller and Katelyn and Carson Seelig; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Roberta J. "Bert" Griffin; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Roberta Griffin as an expression of our sympathy.
