HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to commend and applaud Patty Ryan for her great dedication and her many significant achievements; and

WHEREAS, Saint Ignatius College Prep, a Jesuit Catholic school in the heart of Chicago, is a diverse community dedicated to educating young men and women for lives of faith, love, service, and leadership; and

WHEREAS, Through outstanding teaching and personal formation, Saint Ignatius College Prep challenges its talented student body to intellectual excellence, integrity, and lifelong learning and growth; and

WHEREAS, Patty Ryan is an esteemed alumni of Saint Ignatius College Prep, embodying wholeheartedly the belief that the Saint Ignatius graduate will examine his or her religious feelings and beliefs with a view to adhering to her faith's choice of a fundamental orientation toward God and establishing a relationship with a religious tradition and community; and

WHEREAS, Patty Ryan believes in taking more responsibility for exploring, confirming, and living out her own faith; she embodies a core tenant of her faith by continuing to move beyond self-interest or self-centeredness in her relationships with others; and

WHEREAS, Patty Ryan demonstrates herself to be a person for others in the Jesuit tradition and encourages her players and students to be men and women for others; and

WHEREAS, As a Saint Ignatius College Prep alumni, Patty Ryan accepts the charge of her faith to embrace intentional responsibility for her own growth and to risk deeper levels of relationship in which one discloses self, accepts the mystery of another person, and cherishes that person; she has also achieved considerable knowledge of some of the many needs of local and wider communities and has taken a place in these communities as a competent, concerned, and responsible member; and

WHEREAS, Patty Ryan continues to exhibit personal growth of mastery of intellectual integrity in her personal quest for the truth of her religious beliefs and her response to issues of social justice; and

WHEREAS, Patty Ryan was an esteemed participant on the Saint Ignatius Wolfpack Girls Varsity Volleyball Team and started all four years of high school on the Varsity Team; and

WHEREAS, Patty Ryan was an All-State volleyball stand-out at Saint Ignatius College Prep, with some of her accomplishments including Saint Ignatius Team MVP (1994), All-Division and All-Conference for the Girls Catholic Athletic Conference (1991-1994), Chicago Sun Times All-Area Team (1994), Chicago Tribune All-Area Team (1994), and induction into the Girls Catholic Athletic Conference Hall of Fame (2011-2012); and

WHEREAS, After graduating from Saint Ignatius College Prep, Patty Ryan went on to earn a full-ride volleyball scholarship from Loyola University Chicago; during her senior year at Loyola University Chicago, she was named Player of the Year in that athletic conference; and

WHEREAS, As a Saint Ignatius Varsity assistant varsity volleyball coach, Patty Ryan endeavors to develop student athletes not only on the court, but off the court as well, and to help them learn self-discipline, perseverance, hard work, a sense of personal and school pride, and personal integrity; and

WHEREAS, Over the past 16 years, Patty Ryan helped lead the Saint Ignatius Wolfpack Varsity Volleyball team to 10 IHSA Regional Championships, three IHSA Sectional Championships, five IHSA Sweet Sixteen appearances, and one Girls Athletic Conference Championship; under her leadership, the team beat the Mother McAuley Mighty Macs for the first time in Saint Ignatius school history; and

WHEREAS, Patty Ryan has recently been informed of her successful nomination for induction into the Saint Ignatius Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, Patty Ryan's husband Michael and her children, Abby, Kelly, Mikey, and Patrick, are abundantly proud of her achievements; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we commend and applaud Patty Ryan for her great dedication and many significant achievements and wish her great success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to Patty Ryan as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
