HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Jeff Chudwin on the occasion of his retirement as the Chief of Police for the Village of Olympia Fields on July 17, 2012, after 38 years of dedicated service in law enforcement; and

WHEREAS, Jeff Chudwin earned his juris doctor degree from DePaul University Law School in 1977; and

WHEREAS, Jeff Chudwin began his career in law enforcement in 1974, serving the Village of Olympia Fields in both a part-time and then full-time capacity; in November of 2000, he was appointed by Village President Linzey Jones to the position of Acting Chief; in February of 2001, he was promoted to the position of Chief; and

WHEREAS, Prior to his career with the Village of Olympia Fields, Jeff Chudwin served as an Assistant State's Attorney for Will and Cook Counties; and

WHEREAS, Jeff Chudwin has provided training to police officers on issues of emergency preparedness, police use of force, tactical firearms use, and officer survival throughout the State and at national conferences since 1978; he has assisted officers involved in deadly force incidents and speaks on preparing for deadly force incidents and their aftermath; he also writes for law enforcement publications on the issues of police use of force, firearms training, SWAT, and patrol functions; and

WHEREAS, Jeff Chudwin is a founding member of the Illinois Tactical Officers Association and has served as its president for the past 16 years; he has served as the Police Chief's representative and co-chairman of the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System for Lake, Cook, and DuPage Counties since 2002; he serves as co-chairman of the Terrorism/Disaster Preparedness Committees of the South Suburban Police Chiefs Association, the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association, and is a member of the Illinois Chiefs of Police Association Terrorism Committee; he is co-chairman of the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System (ILEAS) Region 4/Cook, DuPage, and Lake Counties and serves as the committee chair for the ILEAS Weapons of Mass Destruction/Special Response Teams; he serves as co-chairman of the Terrorism/Emergency Preparedness committees of the South Suburban Chiefs of Police and the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Associations; in 2005, he was deployed as a member of the ILEAS Task Force in response to the Hurricane Katrina EMAC request from the State of Louisiana; and

WHEREAS, Jeff Chudwin was named Law Officer Magazine Trainer of the Year for 2009 in recognition of his work; and

WHEREAS, Jeff Chudwin serves as a model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Jeff Chudwin on the occasion of his retirement and wish him many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Jeff Chudwin as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
