HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Dr. Atha Hunt, who passed away on December 21, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Atha Hunt was born on February 27, 1942; his parents were Oleva and Robert Hunt; he married Dearia Selph in 1975; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Atha Hunt graduated from Dunbar Vocational High School and earned his bachelor's degree in economics from SIU-Carbondale and his master's degree in economics from Roosevelt University; after a short stint as a Chicago Public Schools teacher, he earned his MBA from the University of Chicago; while working at the Center for Inner City Studies, he earned his Juris Doctor from DePaul University; and

WHEREAS, In 1976, Dr. Atha Hunt joined Chicago State University's College of Business; he served as an associate professor at the university for 36 years; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Atha Hunt enjoyed reading, listening to music, playing the saxophone, traveling, and attending CSU basketball games; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Atha Hunt was preceded in death by his mother; his brothers, Charles Hunt, Roosevelt Hunt, and Freddie Hill; his nieces, Felicia Payne, Linda Hunt, and Renetta Davis; and his nephews, Charles Hunt Jr., Doin Hill, and Tylis Rainey-Hill; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Atha Hunt is survived by his wife, Dearia; his sons, Atha II, Anton, and Aston; his mother-in-law, Idell Sayles; his brothers, Willie Hunt (Carol), Samuel Hill (Marnita), and Sylvester Hill (Jittun); his sisters, Leonia Davis, Dorothy Hill, Claudia Jones (Robert), Carolyn Dunn (R'Lando), and Shirley Hill (Sergio); his sisters-in-law, Stella, Jacqueline, Doris, Sheila, Esther, Marnita, and Juanita Hill; his brothers-in-law, Larry and Robert; his 38 great-nieces and great-nephews; his 13 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; and his many cousins and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Dr. Atha Hunt; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the family of Dr. Atha Hunt as an expression of our sympathy.
