 1                     AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 697

 2        AMENDMENT NO.     .  Amend House Bill  697  by  replacing
 3    everything after the enacting clause with the following:

 4        "Section  5.  The Nutrition Outreach and Public Education
 5    Act is amended, if and only if Senate Bill  76  of  the  93rd
 6    General  Assembly  becomes law in the form in which it passed
 7    the Senate, by changing Section 25 as follows:

 8        (93SB76, Sec. 25)
 9        Sec.  25.  Grants  to   community   organizations.    The
10    Director  shall make grants from moneys appropriated for that
11    purpose  to  community-based  organizations  or  consortia of
12    community-based organizations in high-risk areas for outreach
13    activities. The outreach activities shall include  but  shall
14    not be limited to the following:
15             (1)  Identifying  barriers  to participation in food
16        assistance programs, including the unavailability of such
17        programs.
18             (2)  Identifying at-risk populations and individuals
19        within the at-risk populations who are not participating.
20             (3)  Disseminating  information  to  and  conducting
21        training sessions for local groups.
22             (4)  Disseminating   information   as   to   program

 1        availability, individual or  household  eligibility,  and
 2        application procedures.
 3             (5)  Providing   nutrition   education  for  at-risk
 4        populations.
 5             (6)  Assisting families and individuals  in  meeting
 6        eligibility   requirements,  including  verification  and
 7        enrollment.
