SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
20 ILCS 605/605-417 new

    Amends the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity Law. Provides that the Department may create a program for the assistance of Illinois manufacturers and other businesses to become accredited in approved international standardization organizations. Provides that the program is subject to appropriation and may allow for the collaboration of statewide manufacturing extension organizations and other providers of programs offering certification in international standardization organizations. Allows the Department to promulgate rules regarding all aspects of the program. Defines "international standardization organization".

1     AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Department of Commerce and Economic
5 Opportunity Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is
6 amended by adding Section 605-417 as follows:
 
7     (20 ILCS 605/605-417 new)
8     Sec. 605-417. International standardization assistance
9 program.
10     The Department may create a program for the assistance of
11 Illinois manufacturers and other businesses to become
12 accredited and reaccredited in approved international
13 standardization organizations. This program is subject to
14 appropriation and may provide for the collaboration of
15 statewide manufacturing extension organizations and other
16 providers of programs offering certification in international
17 standardization organizations.
18     The Department may promulgate rules regarding all aspects
19 of the program of assistance provided for in this Section.
20     For the purposes of this Section, an "international
21 standardization organization" shall mean a recognized body
22 that provides, for common and repeated use, rules,
23 specifications, and criteria to be applied consistently in the
24 classification of materials, in the manufacture and supply of
25 products, in testing and analysis, in terminology, and in the
26 provision of services and may include a reference framework or
27 a common technological language between suppliers and their
28 customers that facilitates trade and the transfer of
29 technology.
