SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
110 ILCS 205/9.30 new

    Amends the Board of Higher Education Act. Requires the Board to implement and administer a statewide program, using the World Wide Web, to assist students, advisors, faculty, and administrators from public and private institutions of higher education in obtaining consistent and accurate information about transfer courses and their applicability towards degree completion by publishing course equivalency guides, academic programs, courses offered, transfer course evaluations, and degree requirements. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning education.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Board of Higher Education Act is amended by
5 adding Section 9.30 as follows:
 
6     (110 ILCS 205/9.30 new)
7     Sec. 9.30. Course transferability program.
8     (a) The Board shall implement and administer a statewide
9 program, using the World Wide Web, to assist students,
10 advisors, faculty, and administrators from public and private
11 institutions of higher education in obtaining consistent and
12 accurate information about transfer courses and their
13 applicability towards degree completion by publishing course
14 equivalency guides, academic programs, courses offered,
15 transfer course evaluations, and degree requirements.
16     (b) Under the program, the Board shall provide appropriate
17 assistance and support to participating public and private
18 institutions of higher education. The Board shall designate
19 participants based on which institutions apply to be part of
20 the program. However, all data shall be managed by each
21 institution of higher education and each institution shall
22 retain complete ownership of the data submitted.
23     (c) The program's Internet website shall contain the
24 following:
25         (1) Transfer course articulations, which shall be
26     updated annually.
27         (2) Institutional reference tables.
28         (3) Degree requirements, which shall be updated
29     annually.
30         (4) Course banks, which shall be updated annually.
31         (5) Academic program pull down menus, which shall be
32     updated annually.

1     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
2 becoming law.
