| HOUSE RESOLUTION
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, A cancer survivor is anyone living with a history | 3 |
| of cancer from the moment of diagnosis through the remainder of | 4 |
| life; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, There are over 10.1 million cancer survivors in | 6 |
| the United States; and
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, There are over 20,300 1-5 year cancer survivors in | 8 |
| Illinois; and
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, Over 1.3 million new cancer cases will be | 10 |
| diagnosed in the United States this year; and
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, While many public health initiatives address | 12 |
| early detection, prevention, and control of cancer, public | 13 |
| health efforts to address cancer survivorship are relatively | 14 |
| new; and
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, Survivors face numerous physical, psychological, | 16 |
| social, spiritual, and financial issues at diagnosis, during | 17 |
| treatment, and for the remaining years of their lives; and
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, It is desirable to minimize pain, disability, and | 19 |
| psychosocial distress for those living with, through, and | 20 |
| beyond cancer; and
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, The State of Illinois has an active and productive | 22 |
| cancer survivor population, demonstrating that a cancer | 23 |
| diagnosis is no longer an automatic death sentence; and
| 24 |
| WHEREAS, Spas and salons can provide survivors a wonderful | 25 |
| gift of support by offering free services to cancer survivors | 26 |
| on the first Tuesday of December as part of a coordinated | 27 |
| cancer survivor event originated by Barbara Paget of Highland |

| Park, Illinois, and supported by Gilda's Club and the | 2 |
| Conference of Women Legislators; therefore, be it
| 3 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 4 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 5 |
| we salute all cancer survivors, and we recognize Cancer | 6 |
| Survivor Salon and Spa Support Day; and be it further | 7 |
| RESOLVED, That we urge all spas and salons to participate | 8 |
| and honor cancer survivors by offering free services on the | 9 |
| first Tuesday in December to women, men, and children who have | 10 |
| courageously fought their battle with cancer; and be it further
| 11 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 12 |
| presented to Barbara Paget with our gratitude.
