1 AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 611
2     AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 611 by replacing
3 everything after the enacting clause with the following:

4     "Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing
5 Section 25-8 as follows:

6     (10 ILCS 5/25-8)  (from Ch. 46, par. 25-8)
7     Sec. 25-8. When a vacancy shall occur in the office of
8 United States Senator from this state, the Governor shall make
9 temporary appointment to fill such vacancy until the next
10 election of representatives in Congress; except that the
11 Secretary of State, with the advice and consent of the Illinois
12 Senate, shall make temporary appointment to fill any such
13 vacancy that occurred between November 1, 2008, and December 1,
14 2008, until the next election of representatives in Congress.

4     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
