SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
415 ILCS 120/23 new

    Amends the Alternate Fuels Act. Provides that, beginning July 1, 2007 and through June 30, 2012, the Secretary of State must notify each owner of a licensed motor vehicle that many motor vehicles are capable of using E85 blended fuel. Sets forth requirements for this notice. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning environmental safety.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Alternate Fuels Act is amended by adding
5 Section 23 as follows:
 
6     (415 ILCS 120/23 new)
7     Sec. 23. Flexible fuel vehicle notification.
8     (a) Beginning July 1, 2007 and through June 30, 2012, the
9 Secretary of State must notify each owner of a licensed motor
10 vehicle that many motor vehicles are capable of using E85
11 blended fuel. This notice must be included with the motor
12 vehicle sticker renewal form mailed to the owner by the Office
13 of the Secretary of State.
14     (b) The notice under this Section must be in the form of a
15 separate paper. The notice must include an image of the
16 American flag and must include the following text:
17         Are you aware that many motor vehicles are capable of
18     using E85 blended fuel? Using E85 blended fuel helps our
19     economy, helps protect our environment, and helps reduce
20     our dependence on foreign oil. In order to find out which
21     vehicles can use E85 fuel, please contact the manufacturer
22     of your motor vehicle or the Office of the Secretary of
23     State. In order to find out where E85 fuel is available,

1     please contact the Office of the Secretary of State, or
2     examine an Illinois highway map published by the Illinois
3     Department of Transportation.
 
4     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
5 becoming law.
