SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

105 ILCS 5/34-18.37 new

Amends the Chicago School District Article of the School Code. Provides that if a school fails to meet adequate yearly progress criteria for 2 consecutive school years and is located in a violence-prone area, as determined by the Chicago Police Department, then the Chicago Board of Education shall require that (1) students receive at least 10 to 15 minutes of physical activity a day, (2) the school have at least one full-time social worker on-site, and (3) after-school physical activity and academic programs be available for students.

AN ACT concerning education.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section 34-18.37 as follows:

(105 ILCS 5/34-18.37 new)

Sec. 34-18.37. Requirements for certain schools in violence-prone areas. If a school fails to meet adequate yearly progress criteria for 2 consecutive school years and is located in a violence-prone area, as determined by the Chicago Police Department, then the board shall require all of the following:

(1) That students receive at least 10 to 15 minutes of physical activity a day.

(2) That the school have at least one full-time social worker on-site.

(3) That after-school physical activity and academic programs be available for students.
