HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the students, alumni, staff, and administration of Lincoln Trail College in Robinson on the occasion of the college's 40th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, Lincoln Trail College was established in 1969 as a part of District 529 of which Olney Central College and Wabash Valley College were members, and of which Frontier Community College later joined; Dr. Joseph C. Piland served as the first President of Lincoln Trail College and led the school during its first year in temporary locations until its completion and opening for classes in the fall of 1970; and

WHEREAS, Lincoln Trail College is a community college that offers over 30 certificate and degree-awarding programs, and also offers online four-year degrees through its affiliations with Franklin University and McKendree College; it has developed a superior reputation for providing high-quality instruction with personalized attention and excellent student support; and

WHEREAS, The mission of Lincoln Trail College as a member of Illinois Eastern Community Colleges is to provide excellence in teaching, learning, public service, and economic development, and throughout the years has been an area leader in the development of many successful technical, vocational, and transfer programs; and

WHEREAS, Lincoln Trail College is accredited through The Higher Learning commission and is approved by the Illinois Board of Higher Education; and

WHEREAS, Lincoln Trail College is proud of the many regional and national achievements of its athletic teams, which participate in the National Junior College Athletic Association as a part of the Great Rivers Athletic Conference; and

WHEREAS, Lincoln Trail college has outstanding drama and music programs, and has produced numerous entertaining and successful pieces with the talents of both students and community members; and

WHEREAS, Lincoln Trail College's International Program is pleased to host numerous students from all over the world each year in an effort to engage students in a global dialogue and foster skills for students to enter into a multicultural global workplace; and

WHEREAS, Since its founding, Lincoln Trail College has grown to enroll over 1,000 students per semester, both online and on-campus; and

WHEREAS, Lincoln Trail College serves the community by offering affordable opportunities to expand, retrain, and strengthen the industrial base of southeastern Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Lincoln Trail College has an exceptional track record of producing proud alumni who have built successful careers and enriched their communities; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the students, alumni, staff, and administration of Lincoln Trail College in Robinson on its 40th anniversary celebration of providing quality education and wish them continued success in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Beverly Turkal, President of Lincoln Trail College, and the Illinois Eastern Community Colleges Board of Trustees, as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
