| 2 | | WHEREAS, Ken and Jackie Pickerill were united in marriage | 3 | | on August 16, 1953, in DeKalb; the couple spent 48 years | 4 | | together until Jackie's passing in 2001; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Ken Pickerill built the first baseball field at | 6 | | what is now Traughber Junior High School in 1956; years later, | 7 | | he funded several projects on the grounds of Oswego High | 8 | | School, including one of his proudest accomplishments, | 9 | | "Jackie's Field of Dreams", after his late wife, which is now | 10 | | home to the Oswego Cats and members of the American Amateur | 11 | | Baseball Congress; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Ken and Jackie Pickerill were both teachers at | 13 | | Oswego High School before opening the Jacqueline Shop in 1957 | 14 | | in downtown Oswego; Jackie left teaching after 1957 to work | 15 | | full-time in the store; and | 16 | | WHEREAS, Following his retirement from teaching, Ken | 17 | | Pickerill continued to oversee Oswego athletics as Oswego High | 18 | | School's head baseball, wrestling, and football coach; he | 19 | | coached the Panthers to 3 undefeated seasons in a row between | 20 | | 1958 and 1960; from 1955 to 1969, he served as Oswego High | 21 | | School's Athletic Director; he was inducted into the Oswego | 22 | | High School Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1976 and the Football |

| 1 | | Hall of Fame in 2000; and
| 2 | | WHEREAS, To honor his years of coaching and support of | 3 | | Oswego athletics, the Oswego High School Football Stadium was | 4 | | named Ken Pickerill Stadium in 2005; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Jackie Pickerill founded the well-known ladies | 6 | | fashion apparel store, Jacqueline Shop of Oswego in 1957; she | 7 | | was one of the founders and a past president of the Oswego | 8 | | Business Association; she was also highly regarded in the | 9 | | women's fashion industry and served as a board member of the | 10 | | Apparel Fashion Center in Chicago; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Ken and Jackie Pickerill both individually and | 12 | | collectively contributed endless leadership, dedication, and | 13 | | support to the Oswego community and beyond; therefore, be it
| 14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 15 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE | 16 | | SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the active bridge | 17 | | spanning the Fox River on Washington Street and Route 34 in | 18 | | Oswego as the Ken and Jackie Pickerill Commemorative Bridge in | 19 | | honor of their work; and be it further
| 20 | | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation | 21 | | is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with |

| 1 | | State and federal regulations, plaques or signs giving notice | 2 | | of the Ken and Jackie Pickerill Commemorative Bridge; and be it | 3 | | further | 4 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | 5 | | presented to the Illinois Secretary of Transportation and the | 6 | | Village of Oswego.
