HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of former
4State Representative Robert "Bob" Bergman, who passed away on
5November 29, 2013 at the age of 65; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Representative Bergman was born on November 10,
71948 in Elgin to Vernon and Marion Bergman; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Representative Bergman's interest in politics was
9evident in his childhood, when he memorized the words to
10"Making of the President" and wrote many letters to White House
11officials; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Representative Bergman was raised in the Village
13of Palatine and lived there for his entire adult life; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Representative Bergman graduated from Palatine
15High School before joining his father in the family's trucking
16business, Bergman Trucking; and
 
17    WHEREAS, In 1973, at the age of 24, Representative Bergman
18followed in his father's footsteps and was elected as the
19Palatine Township Highway Commissioner, a position he held for
2024 years; and

1    WHEREAS, In the early 1990s, Representative Bergman worked
2as a customer service representative in the vehicle service
3department for the Illinois Secretary of State; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Representative Bergman served with distinction in
5the Illinois House of Representatives from 1996 to 1999 as the
6Representative of Illinois' 54th District; and
 
7    WHEREAS, During his tenure in the 90th General Assembly,
8Representative Bergman sponsored 8 bills that are now Public
9Acts; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Upon leaving the General Assembly, Representative
11Bergman went on to work for Arrow Road Construction until his
12retirement in 2012; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Representative Bergman remained active in
14politics as a political advisor to many candidates; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Representative Bergman was a valued community
16servant who worked tirelessly on behalf of the people of
17Palatine Township and of Illinois' 54th House District; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Representative Bergman was a true gentleman who
19loved his family, his community, his friends, politics, and

1history; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Representative Bergman was preceded in death by
3his mother, Marion Bergman; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Representative Bergman is survived by his father,
5Vernon Bergman; his 4 children; his 6 grandchildren; his 2
6siblings; and many cherished nieces and nephews; therefore, be
7it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
10we mourn the passing of Representative Robert "Bob" Bergman,
11and we extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends,
12and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Representative Bergman as an
15expression of our deepest sympathy and most sincere
16appreciation of his community spirit, his service to the State
17of Illinois, and his dedication to the people of Illinois' 54th
18House District.
