| 2 | | WHEREAS, Private First Class Andrew N. Meari was assigned | 3 | | to service in Afghanistan as
a member of 1st Battalion, 502nd | 4 | | Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st
Airborne | 5 | | Division (Air Assault); and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, While guarding an entrance point to Combat Outpost | 7 | | Senjaray on November
1, 2010, PFC Meari and a comrade | 8 | | intercepted a motorcycle-riding, explosive-armed
suicide | 9 | | bomber who was trying to get into the American combat camp; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Upon being intercepted, the suicide bomber | 11 | | detonated himself, killing himself
and two Americans, | 12 | | including PFC Meari; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, PFC Meari was killed in action in Afghanistan on | 14 | | November 1, 2010
under circumstances that saved multiple lives | 15 | | in the combat outpost that was under attack; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, The memory of PFC Meari and his heroic service is | 17 | | commemorated by his neighbors with PFC Andrew Meari Memorial | 18 | | Park, located in his
home town of Plainfield; therefore, be it
| 19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 20 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE |

| 1 | | SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the section of | 2 | | Illinois Route 59 from Caton Farm Road to Illinois Route 126 as | 3 | | the
"PFC Andrew Meari Memorial Highway"; and be it further | 4 | | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation | 5 | | be requested to erect, at
suitable locations consistent with | 6 | | State and Federal regulations, an appropriate plaque or
signs | 7 | | giving notice of the name "PFC Andrew Meari Memorial Highway"; | 8 | | and be it further
| 9 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | 10 | | presented to Denise
Williams of Plainfield, the mother of | 11 | | Private First Class Andrew N. Meari, and the Secretary of the | 12 | | Illinois
Department of Transportation.
