| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Harvey LaVerne Benedict of Waukegan, who | 4 | | passed away on February 24, 2020; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Harvey Benedict was born in Tampa, Florida to | 6 | | LaVerne Shephard and Elsie Louise Benedict (Zecetschke) on | 7 | | December 29, 1925; he graduated from Waukegan Township High | 8 | | School in January of 1944 and served in the U.S. Marines during | 9 | | World War II; he was honorably discharged in 1945; he married | 10 | | Nola Gene Nielsen on October 24, 1959, and they settled in | 11 | | Waukegan in 1961; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Harvey Benedict worked for many years at the | 13 | | Commonwealth Edison nuclear power plant in Zion; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Harvey Benedict was a member of St. Paul's | 15 | | Lutheran Church and the American Legion; he enjoyed working | 16 | | around the house, traveling, camping with his family, and | 17 | | learning the family history and genealogy; he also enjoyed an | 18 | | Italian beef sandwich from Portillo's and a nice hot cup of | 19 | | coffee; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Harvey Benedict was preceded in death by his | 21 | | parents; his sister, Nancy Pataky; his brother-in-law, Ralph |

| 1 | | Pataky; and his long-time friend and brother-in-law, Victor | 2 | | Geib; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Harvey Benedict is survived by his wife, Nola Gene | 4 | | Benedict; his children, Todd (Amy) Benedict, Lee (Jackie) | 5 | | Benedict, and Lynnette (Rick) Adkins; his grandchildren, Evan | 6 | | (Morgan) Sims, Coulson (Taitum) Sims, Andrew Benedict, and | 7 | | Jacob Benedict; his sister, Marion Geib; and many nephews and | 8 | | nieces and their children; therefore, be it
| 9 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | 10 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 11 | | Harvey LaVerne Benedict and extend our sincere condolences to | 12 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 13 | | further
| 14 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 15 | | presented to the family of Harvey Benedict as an expression of | 16 | | our deepest sympathy.
