| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Betty White, who passed away on | 4 | | December 31, 2021; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Betty White was born in Oak Park to Harris and | 6 | | Tess White on January 17, 1922; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Betty White was widely recognized in her craft as | 8 | | having built a career that spanned seven decades, such that | 9 | | Guinness World Records certified her as the female entertainer | 10 | | with the longest career; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Betty White was awarded seven Emmy awards for her | 12 | | acting; she was inducted into the Television Academy Hall of | 13 | | Fame in 1995 and was voted Entertainer of the Year by members | 14 | | of the Associated Press; she was given a lifetime achievement | 15 | | award by the Screen Actors Guild in 2010, only to continue | 16 | | acting and producing well into her 90s; and | 17 | | WHEREAS, Betty White supported the breaking of racial | 18 | | barriers in the television industry by featuring a Black tap | 19 | | dancer, Arthur Duncan, on The Betty White Show as a regular | 20 | | during the 1950s; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Betty White was a lifelong animal lover; | 2 | | alongside her beloved husband and supporter, Allen Ludden, she | 3 | | devoted her time off-screen to supporting the American Humane | 4 | | Association, the Morris Animal Foundation, the Fund for | 5 | | Animals, and the Los Angeles Zoo; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Betty White was honored in 2006 by the Los | 7 | | Angeles Zoo with the title "Ambassador to the Animals" and a | 8 | | plaque unveiled in her honor; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Betty White brought joy to countless Americans | 10 | | over the decades with her humor and artistic abilities; and | 11 | | WHEREAS, Illinois is a state that seeks to richly | 12 | | contribute to the greater American culture through creative | 13 | | vision and honors individuals that dedicate their life to | 14 | | philanthropic endeavors; therefore, be it
| 15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | 16 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare January 17, | 17 | | 2022 as "Betty White Day" in the State of Illinois to | 18 | | commemorate the deeply devoted, artistic, visionary, and | 19 | | philanthropic spirit of Betty White; and be it further | 20 | | RESOLVED, That we mourn the passing of Betty White and | 21 | | extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, many |
