| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of John E. Juergensmeyer of Elgin, who | 4 | | passed away on September 28, 2014; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, John Juergensmeyer was born in Stewardson on May | 6 | | 14, 1934 to Irvin and Clara (nee Johannaber) Juergensmeyer; he | 7 | | graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts from the | 8 | | University of Illinois in 1955; he received his Master of Arts | 9 | | from Princeton University in 1957 and was a Merrill Foundation | 10 | | Fellow; he received his doctorate in politics from Princeton | 11 | | University in 1960, where he was a University Fellow, and his | 12 | | Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois in 1963; he served | 13 | | with the United States Air Force Intelligence Service in Japan | 14 | | and other Far East locations; he retired from the service as a | 15 | | Reserve Captain; he married Elizabeth Ann Bogart on September | 16 | | 10, 1963; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, John Juergensmeyer began practicing law in Elgin | 18 | | in 1963 and was the sole proprietor of Juergensmeyer & | 19 | | Associates, P.C.; he served as an Assistant Attorney General | 20 | | for the State of Illinois and as both an Assistant State's | 21 | | Attorney and an Assistant
Public Defender for Kane County; he | 22 | | was appointed to the National Commission on Libraries and | 23 | | Information
Science by President Reagan; he was a member of the |

| 1 | | Kane County, Cook County, Northwest Suburban, and
American Bar | 2 | | Associations; he served as Chairman of the Local Government Law | 3 | | Committees of the Illinois State Bar Association and the | 4 | | Chicago Bar Association, and he wrote and lectured extensively | 5 | | for numerous professional associations; he was admitted to
the | 6 | | Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States in 1968; he was a | 7 | | former Professor of Constitutional Law and Political Science at | 8 | | Judson University in Elgin and
served on the teaching faculty | 9 | | of the University of Illinois, Northern Illinois University, | 10 | | and the University of Hawaii; and | 11 | | WHEREAS, John Juergensmeyer was very active in local | 12 | | political and civic organizations, including serving as | 13 | | Chairman of TLC Pregnancy Services; he
was also a member of the | 14 | | Board of Directors of the Salvation Army; he was elected as an | 15 | | alternate delegate to the
National Republican Convention in | 16 | | 1976 and was a past Chairman of the Kane County Republicans; he | 17 | | was active in the
Elgin Township Republican Central Committee, | 18 | | where he served as Secretary; he was a long-time
Republican | 19 | | precinct committeeman for Precinct 30 in Elgin; he also was | 20 | | active in Rotary International; the Jaycees; the Boy Scouts,
| 21 | | where he was obtained the rank of Eagle Scout in 1950; Centro | 22 | | de Informacione; and many other groups; and
| 23 | | WHEREAS, John Juergensmeyer was a member of Wesley United | 24 | | Methodist Church for 38 years, where he served as a lay speaker |

| 1 | | and delegate to district and national conferences; and
| 2 | | WHEREAS, John Juergensmeyer was preceded in death by his | 3 | | parents; a son, Karl; and his sister Carolyn Worley; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, John Juergensmeyer is survived by his wife of 51 | 5 | | years, Dr. Elizabeth Juergensmeyer; daughters, Dr. Margaret | 6 | | Juergensmeyer (Brian) and Frances (Fred); granddaughter, | 7 | | Kiersten Juergensmeyer; and his brothers, Charles
| 8 | | Juergensmeyer and Dr. Mark Juergensmeyer (Su Cheng Chan); | 9 | | therefore, be it
| 10 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | 11 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 12 | | John E. Juergensmeyer, and extend our sincere condolences to | 13 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 14 | | further
| 15 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 16 | | presented to the family of John Juergensmeyer as an expression | 17 | | of our deepest sympathy.
