| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate John Brown on the occasion | 4 | | of his retirement from the Rock Island County Clerk's Office on | 5 | | April 28, 2017; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, John Brown was born to Joan (Kerres) and John | 7 | | Brown
Sr. on October 16, 1951, the oldest of 10 children;
he | 8 | | was the third generation to be a member of St. Joseph Catholic | 9 | | Church in Rock Island, and graduated from Alleman High School | 10 | | and Southern Illinois University; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, John Brown began working elections in the 1970s by | 12 | | organizing Blackhawk Township for his father's
successful | 13 | | supervisor candidacy, and since 1978, he has been a Democratic | 14 | | Precinct Committeeman; he first worked in the Rock Island | 15 | | County Clerk's office under John Gianulis beginning in 1982; he | 16 | | continued with County Clerk Dick Leibovitz until 1997, when he | 17 | | succeeded Carolyn Lund as supervisor of Rock Island Township, | 18 | | serving until
2013; in 2010, he re-joined the Rock Island | 19 | | County Clerk's office with Karen Kinney; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, John Brown is a strategic thinker who knows | 21 | | elections, from the rules and processes to the | 22 | | precinct-by-precinct
results; he is the foremost expert in the |

| 1 | | area of administering elections; and
| 2 | | WHEREAS, John Brown is involved with many projects as chief | 3 | | deputy: cleaning up the voter files, civil unions and marriage
| 4 | | equality, same-day voter registration, and improving early | 5 | | voting locations and availability; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, John Brown loves his cats; he enjoys gardening in | 7 | | his backyard and growing strawberries,
cucumbers, tomatoes, | 8 | | peppers, and spinach; he recently renovated his historical | 9 | | home; therefore, be it
| 10 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 11 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 12 | | congratulate John Brown on his retirement from the Rock Island | 13 | | County Clerk's Office on April 28, 2017, and we wish him the | 14 | | best in all his future endeavors; and be it further
| 15 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 16 | | presented to John Brown as an expression of our esteem and | 17 | | respect.
