90_HJ0065eng HJ0065 Engrossed LRB9012091CBcbA 1 HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 65 2 WHEREAS, Various Illinois statutes governing the 3 collection, retention, and storage of public records were 4 enacted many years ago; and 5 WHEREAS, Modern technology has resulted in the 6 development of record keeping technologies and formats, 7 including those widely acknowledged in the commercial world, 8 that are not contemplated by existing Illinois laws governing 9 the collection, protection, and storage of public records; 10 and 11 WHEREAS, Sound public policy dictates that special 12 concern be paid to the security and authenticity of public 13 records and that adequate safeguards be provided by law; 14 therefore, be it 15 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 16 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE 17 SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that a 14-member Task Force be 18 formed to study the modernization of laws dealing with public 19 records; the Task Force shall consist of a designee of the 20 Governor, the Secretary of State, the Cook County Local 21 Records Commission, the Local Records Commission, the Mayor 22 of the City of Chicago, the Illinois Municipal League, the 23 DuPage Mayors and Managers Conference, and the Municipal 24 Clerks of Illinois; 2 members appointed by the President of 25 the Senate; 2 members appointed by the Speaker of the House 26 of Representatives; one member appointed by the Minority 27 Leader of the Senate; and one member appointed by the 28 Minority Leader of the House of Representatives; appointments 29 made by the General Assembly shall be made within 30 days 30 after this Resolution is adopted; and be it further 31 RESOLVED, That the Task Force report its findings and 32 recommendations to the General Assembly and the Governor no HJ0065 Engrossed -2- LRB9012091CBcbA 1 later than January 1, 1999; and be it further 2 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 3 delivered to the Governor, the Speaker of the House of 4 Representatives, the President of the Senate, the Minority 5 Leader of the House of Representatives, and the Minority 6 Leader of the Senate.
