LRB9001631JSgc LRB9001631JSgc 1 AN ACT to amend the Illinois Insurance Code by changing 2 Section 143.28. 3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 4 represented in the General Assembly: 5 Section 5. The Illinois Insurance Code is amended by 6 changing Section 143.28 as follows: 7 (215 ILCS 5/143.28) (from Ch. 73, par. 755.28) 8 Sec. 143.28. Rate discount; anti-theft mechanism. The 9 rates and premium charges for all policies of automobile 10 insurance, as described in sub-section (a) of Section 143.13 11 of this Code, shall include appropriate reductions for 12 insured automobiles which are equipped with anti-theft 13 mechanisms or devices approved by the Director. To implement 14 the provisions of this section, the Director shall promulgate 15 rules and regulations, and shall appoint an Automotive 16 Engineering Advisory Panel consisting of qualified persons 17 with expertise in automotive design, vehicle service, and 18 theft deterrent measures, to develop minimum performance 19 standards for certification of such anti-theft mechanisms and 20 devices and to develop minimum performance standards for 21 their certification. The Secretary of State or his 22 designated representative shall be a member of the Automotive 23 Engineering Advisory Panel, and shall provide the Panel with 24 technical and other assistance, as it shall require. The 25 rules and regulations promulgated hereunder shall include 26 procedures for certification to insurers that anti-theft 27 mechanisms and devices have been installed properly in 28 insured vehicles. 29 (Source: P.A. 81-0871; 81-1509.)
