Amend Senate Bill 521 on page 1, by 3 replacing lines 10 through 18 with the following: 4 "(a) A person who, after the commencement of a criminal 5 prosecution, has been identified in the criminal discovery 6 process as a person who may be called as a witness in a 7 criminal proceeding shall not accept or receive, directly or 8 indirectly, any payment or benefit in consideration for 9 providing information obtained as a result of witnessing an 10 event or occurrence or having personal knowledge of certain 11 facts in relation to the criminal proceeding."; and 12 on page 2, line 1, by inserting "or benefits" after 13 "compensation"; and 14 on page 2, line 12, by inserting "as a reward for information 15 leading to the arrest and conviction of specified offenders" 16 after "individual"; and 17 on page 2, by inserting between lines 23 and 24 the 18 following: 19 "(f) The person referred to in subsection (a) of this 20 Section shall receive written notice from counsel for either 21 the prosecution or defense of the fact that he or she has 22 been identified as a person who may be called as a witness in -2- LRB9002477RCksam03 1 a criminal proceeding and his or her responsibilities and 2 possible penalties under this Section.".
