SCH CD-REQ STUDY-STATE-LOC GVT                                             

Synopsis of Bill as introduced:
        Amends the School Code.  Requires that each high school  student,      
   as  a  prerequisite to receiving a high school diploma, must study 1/2      
   of one year of social studies devoted entirely to the study  of  State      
   and  local  government  in  addition  to  other  classes required as a      
   prerequisite to receiving a high school diploma.                            
          STATE MANDATES FISCAL NOTE (State Bd. of Ed.)                        
          The total cost of the mandate statewide could be $10,569,020.        
          If the provisions of the State Mandates Act are applied, then        
          this would require an appropriation of at least $5,284,451.
