 1        AN ACT concerning the regulation of professions.

 2        Be it enacted by the People of  the  State  of  Illinois,
 3    represented in the General Assembly:

 4        Section  5.   The  Acupuncture Practice Act is amended by
 5    adding Section 20.1 and changing Section 50 as follows:

 6        (225 ILCS 2/20.1 new)
 7        Sec. 20.1.  Guest acupuncturists.  The provisions of this
 8    Act do not prohibit an acupuncturist from  another  State  or
 9    country,  who  is  not  licensed under this Act and who is an
10    invited guest of a professional  acupuncture  association  or
11    scientific  acupuncture foundation or an acupuncture training
12    program or continuing education  provider  that  is  approved
13    under  this  Act,  from  engaging  in  professional education
14    through lectures,  clinics,  or  demonstrations.   The  guest
15    acupuncturist  may  engage  in the practice of acupuncture in
16    conjunction with the lectures, clinics, or demonstrations for
17    a maximum of 6 months, but may not open an office, appoint  a
18    place  to  meet  patients,  receive  calls  from patients, or
19    otherwise engage in the practice of acupuncture.

21        Sec. 50.  Practice prohibited.  Unless he or she has been
22    issued, by the Department, a valid, existing  license  as  an
23    acupuncturist under this Act, no person may use the title and
24    designation  of  "Acupuncturist",  "Licensed  Acupuncturist",
25    "Certified  Acupuncturist",  "C.A.",  "Act.", "Lic. Act.", or
26    "Lic. Ac." either directly or indirectly, in connection  with
27    his  or her profession or business.  No person licensed under
28    this Act may  use  the  designation  "medical",  directly  or
29    indirectly,  in  connection  with  his  or  her profession or
30    business.  Nothing shall prevent a physician from  using  the

 1    designation "Acupuncturist".
 2        No  person  may  practice,  offer to practice, attempt to
 3    practice, or hold himself or herself out  to  practice  as  a
 4    licensed acupuncturist without being licensed under this Act.
 5        This  Act  does  not prohibit a person from administering
 6    acupuncture treatment as  part  of  his  or  her  educational
 7    training when he or she:
 8        (1)  is   engaged   in   a   State-approved   course   in
 9    acupuncture, as provided in this Act; or
10        (2)  is  a  graduate  of  a  school  of  acupuncture  and
11    participating  in  a postgraduate review course that does not
12    exceed 6 months in duration.

14        Section 99.  Effective date.  This Act takes effect  upon
15    becoming law.
