JONES,JOHN-HARTKE. New Act Creates the Agriculture Fair Practice Act. Provides that farmers may keep seed DNA alive and may use that seed DNA for more than one growing season if the farmer purchased the seed DNA and will use the seed DNA only for his or her own use. Seed producers may not require a farmer to lease seed DNA. Provides that the Department of Agriculture must implement truth in pricing guidelines to even out the disparity between the input costs paid by American farmers and the input costs paid by foreign farmers. Provides that seed producers may not introduce terminator or suicide genes into Illinois unless the General Assembly, by law, grants the authority to do so. Effective immediately.
