Senate Sponsors: VIVERITO. Short description: VET AFFRS-INSPECTOR GENERAL Synopsis of Bill as introduced: Amends the Department of Veterans Affairs Act. Requires the Governor to appoint an Inspector General within the Department of Veterans' Affairs to review the operations and financial condition of each Illinois veterans home; review the operation and financial condition of veteran's programs receiving State moneys, including, but not limited to, County Veterans Assistance Commissions and veterans' memorials; and investigate allegations of misconduct by Department employees. Sets procedures the Inspector General must follow in conducting investigations. Provides for sanctions. Allows the Inspector General to recommend changes necessary to improve veterans' programs to the Director of Veterans' Affairs and to the General Assembly. Effective July 1, 2002.
