Senate Sponsors: O'MALLEY. House Sponsors: GARRETT-CROTTY-MATHIAS Short description: LIBRARIES-TASK FORCE Synopsis of Bill as introduced: Amends the Illinois Library System Act. Creates a Task Force to explore the ways and means to (i) coordinate school libraries with current library systems; (ii) aid libraries in implementing new technologies; and (iii) create a state-wide library service for all of Illinois. Provides that the Task Force shall submit a report of its findings and recommendations to the Governor and the General Assembly on or before January 1, 2003. SENATE AMENDMENT NO. 1. Deletes reference to: 75 ILCS 10/7.1 new Adds reference to: New Act Replaces everything after the enacting clause. Creates the Illinois Library System Task Force Act. Creates a Task Force appointed by the Secretary of State to study (i) the means by which public libraries and elementary and secondary school libraries can enhance the coordination of students accessing information in public libraries, (ii) The means by which public libraries and elementary and secondary school libraries can access new library information technology and enhance the capability of funding for technology from federal, State, local, and other resources, and (iii) The issues involved in and the effectiveness, cost, and means of implementing a Statewide public library service. Requires the Task Force to submit a report of its findings to the Governor, the Secretary of State, and the General Assembly on or before January 1, 2003. Repeals the Act on January 1, 2003. Effective immediately.
