90_SB0473enr 705 ILCS 35/2j new Amends the Circuit Courts Act. Authorize the addition of one circuit judge to be elected at large in the seventeenth judicial circuit. Provides that the additional circuit judgeship shall be filled by appointment until the general election in November of 1998. Effective immediately. LRB9002535KDks SB473 Enrolled LRB9002535KDks 1 AN ACT to amend the Circuit Courts Act by adding Section 2 2j. 3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 4 represented in the General Assembly: 5 Section 5. The Circuit Courts Act is amended by adding 6 Section 2j as follows: 7 (705 ILCS 35/2j new) 8 Sec. 2j. Additional judges. 9 (a) In addition to the number of circuit judges 10 otherwise authorized by this Act, there shall be one 11 additional circuit judge elected at large in the seventeenth 12 judicial circuit. 13 (b) In addition to the number of circuit judges 14 otherwise authorized by this Act, there shall be one 15 additional circuit judge elected at large in the eighteenth 16 judicial circuit. 17 (c) In addition to the number of circuit judges 18 otherwise authorized by this Act, there shall be one 19 additional circuit judge elected in the nineteenth judicial 20 circuit who is a resident of and elected from Lake County. 21 (d) In addition to the number of circuit judges 22 otherwise authorized by this Act, there shall be one 23 additional circuit judge elected in the fifth judicial 24 circuit who is a resident of and elected from Vermilion 25 County. 26 (e) In addition to the number of circuit judges and 27 resident judges otherwise authorized by law, and 28 notwithstanding any other provision of law, there shall be 29 one additional resident judge elected from the unit within 30 Chicago of the Circuit of Cook County to serve in the 31 juvenile division. SB473 Enrolled -2- LRB9002535KDks 1 (f) In addition to the number of circuit judges and 2 resident judges otherwise authorized by law, and 3 notwithstanding any other provision of law, there shall be 4 one additional resident judge who is a resident of and 5 elected from the third judicial subcircuit in Cook County. 6 (g) The additional circuit judgeships, subcircuit 7 judgeships, and resident judgeship provided by this Section 8 shall be filled by appointment until those judgeships are 9 filled by election at the general election in November of 10 1998. 11 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon 12 becoming law.
