SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
70 ILCS 3705/7.3 new
70 ILCS 3710/5.2 new
70 ILCS 3715/6c new
70 ILCS 3720/2.5 new

    Amends the Public Water District Act, the Water Service District Act, the Water Authorities Act, and the Water Commission Act of 1985. Requires a public water district, water service district, water authority, or water commission that issues a boil order or any other warning concerning the potability or safety of water to immediately give written notification to any county health department that serves an area subject to the order or warning. Requires the notification to include the estimated duration of the warning or order and the geographic area covered by the order or warning. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning water safety.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Public Water District Act is amended by
5 adding Section 7.3 as follows:
 
6     (70 ILCS 3705/7.3 new)
7     Sec. 7.3. Boil order or other warning; notification of
8 county health department required. If a public water district
9 issues a boil order or any other warning concerning the
10 potability or safety of water, the district must immediately
11 give written notification to any county health department that
12 serves an area subject to the order or warning. The
13 notification must include the estimated duration of the order
14 or warning and the geographic area covered by the order or
15 warning.
 
16     Section 10. The Water Service District Act is amended by
17 adding Section 5.2 as follows:
 
18     (70 ILCS 3710/5.2 new)
19     Sec. 5.2. Boil order or other warning; notification of
20 county health department required. If a water service district
21 issues a boil order or any other warning concerning the
22 potability or safety of water, the district must immediately
23 give written notification to any county health department that
24 serves an area subject to the order or warning. The
25 notification must include the estimated duration of the order
26 or warning and the geographic area covered by the order or
27 warning.
 
28     Section 15. The Water Authorities Act is amended by adding
29 Section 6c as follows:

1     (70 ILCS 3715/6c new)
2     Sec. 6c. Boil order or other warning; notification of
3 county health department required. If a water authority issues
4 a boil order or any other warning concerning the potability or
5 safety of water, the authority must immediately give written
6 notification to any county health department that serves an
7 area subject to the order or warning. The notification must
8 include the estimated duration of the order or warning and the
9 geographic area covered by the order or warning.
 
10     Section 20. The Water Commission Act of 1985 is amended by
11 adding Section 2.5 as follows:
 
12     (70 ILCS 3720/2.5 new)
13     Sec. 2.5. Boil order or other warning; notification of
14 county health department required. If a water commission issues
15 a boil order or any other warning concerning the potability or
16 safety of water, the commission must immediately give written
17 notification to any county health department that serves an
18 area subject to the order or warning. The notification must
19 include the estimated duration of the order or warning and the
20 geographic area covered by the order or warning.
 
21     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
22 becoming law.
